On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, tragedy struck in our own backyard when a military WC-130 Hercules aircraft crashed on GA Hwy 21, right outside of Savannah, killing all nine of the flight crew on board. These brave people were members of the Puerto Rico Air National Guard. Traveling on a plane from the 156th Airlift Wing out of Puerto Rico, they were making the aircraft’s final flight en route to Arizona when it crashed shortly after takeoff.
With our close-knit ties to not only the military, but also our home right here in Savannah, Nine Line couldn’t be more proud and honored to step up and help after being contacted, immediately following the crash, by the local 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard, stationed at Savannah Air National Guard Base. We are here to do our part and to pay our respects and honor these nine heroes of the 156th Airlift Wing. This partnership, with the 165th Airlift Wing, gives us the chance to raise funds for the families left behind in the wake of this heartbreaking occurrence.
The 165th and 156th are considered sister units. By coming together in this time of tragedy, we have the goal of raising funds and awareness for those affected. Anything that we can do to help alleviate their pain, and show our support, makes all the difference in honoring the memory of these nine crew members lost too soon.
Through the sale of this collaborative fundraising design with the 165th and 156th Air National Guard units, now you too can help carry on the memory of these nine fallen heroes of the skies. With this design, we hope to show the unity between these two proud units during a time when we all need to stand together.
100% of the proceeds from the sale of “156th Air Wing” will go through the 165th Airlift Wing Veterans Association to be disbursed to the families of the victims.
